Biography
Lacy Slaats is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher from northeast Wisconsin. She trained at Barb’s Centre For Dance in a variety of styles, including but not limited to: ballet, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, modern, tap, and hip-hop. Lacy furthered both her dance and academic education at The Ohio State University where she graduated in 2023 with a BFA in Dance and Minor in Business. There she expanded her dance training to dances of the African diaspora as well as various somatic practices. During her first year, she was selected to perform in Martha Graham’s Steps in the Street and Anna Sokolow’s Rooms, which have both been restaged by Dr. Valarie Williams from labanotation scores. She toured and performed these works internationally while also facilitating and leading discussions about how these works relate to global societal issues today. During her time at Ohio State, she also had the opportunity to work closely with and perform works by other faculty such as Bebe Miller, Abby Zbikowski, Charles O. Anderson, and Crystal Michelle Perkins. Lacy created works of her own, such as her thesis project "Praxis," which was restaged and performed by a group touring throughout Brazil. Recently, Lacy was asked to take part in the reconstruction of a lost section of George Balanchine’s Agon. She assisted and demonstrated in teaching the work to artists of the New York City Ballet for the Balanchine Foundation. Currently, Lacy is based in Chicago, IL, where she is a company member with Winifred Haun & Dancers.
